TODAY IN HISTORY

1960: Sen. John F. Kennedy and Vice President Richard Nixon become the first presidential candidates to debate on television. TV viewers generally thought Kennedy won; those who tuned in on radio said Nixon did better.

1969: The Beatles release their 17-track album Abbey Road.

1991: Eight researchers begin a two-year experiment in a closed structure called Biosphere 2. The project studies the interactions of life systems.
