TODAY IN HISTORY

1972:American swimmer Mark Spitz becomes the first person to set seven world records and win seven gold medals at a single Olympic Game.

1957: On the first day of school in Arkansas, a ring of National Guard troops prevents the “Little Rock Nine” from entering Central High School.

1957: Ford Motor Co. launches the Edsel, described as “an Oldsmobile sucking a lemon.” Ford stops production less than two years later.
