1895:Physicist William Roentgen accidentally discovers X-rays while experimenting with passing cathode rays through glass at his laboratory in Wurzburg, Germany. Surprisingly, Roentgen would never patent his important discovery, which would have powerful implications in many fields, particularly for medical diagnostics. 

1889:Montana admitted as 41st US state

1892: Grover Cleveland is elected president of the United States with a victory over incumbent President Benjamin Harrison. Cleveland is no stranger to the White House, having served a term as president from 1885 to 1889, thus becoming the only chief executive to serve two nonconsecutive terms.

1965: Created by the husband-and-wife team of Ted and Betty Corday, the daytime soap opera Days of Our Lives debuts on NBC, featuring the enduring voice-over: "Like sand through the hourglass, these are the days of our lives."


1519:Aztec ruler Montezuma welcomes Hernan Cortez into Aztec Capital, Tenochtitlan

1793:The Louvre is opened as a public museum in Paris.

1602:Bodleian Library at Oxford University is opened to the public.

1960:John F Kennedy is elected as 35th President of the United States
