1936:King Edward VIII voluntarily abdicates the throne. His reason: to marry Wallis Warfield Simpson. They become the Duke and Duchess of Windsor.

1941: Jeannette Rankin is the only member of Congress who does not vote in favor of declaring war against Italy and Germany.

1972: Astronauts Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt become the last to walk on the moon.
