THE FIRST WORD

haikai
Hōitsu wrote haikai, a form of lighthearted collaborative poetry in which each poet links his verse to the previous one's.
Haikai means "amusement" or "pleasantry," and the word was used more to refer to the tone of the poem than the form. Another kind of humorous poetry is the kyoka, a "crazy verse."
