THE FIRST WORD

ralli quilt
Slung over the back of the sofa is an antique ralli quilt (sometimes called a marriage blanket) from Pakistan or India.
The patterns on many ralli quilts are similar to those found on ancient (4000 B.C.) pottery of the area. The word "ralli" is sometimes translated as "connect." Ralli quilts are usually made from rags and leftover fabric, and most commonly in color schemes of black, white and red.
