MY SHOES, MY SELF

Hannibal Lecter could psychoanalyze Clarice Starling with one glance at her "cheap shoes," but how much of someone's personality is really revealed by their footwear?
Researchers asked more than 200 students to submit photos of the shoes they wore most often and answer questions about their personalities and other topics. Other students then made judgments about the owners, based on the photo.
Students viewed both men and women who wore "high top" shoes (say, boots) as less agreeable than those who wore low-top footwear. Those diagnoses meshed with students' answers on the personality tests. As for the trait of "attachment anxiety" (insecurity about personal relationships), people who wore drab, newish shoes were accurately perceived as often being insecure about friendships and romances.
