1940:Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands arrives in the United Kingdom, after fleeing from the Nazi invasion of her homeland. She will be a symbol of Dutch resistance throughout World War II, speaking to her subjects from Radio Orange in London.

1967: Dr. Zakir Hussain is elected as the third president of India; he is also the first Muslim to hold India’s highest office.

1985: A month before his 43rd birthday, Tony Perez of the Cincinnati Reds becomes the oldest person to hit a Major League Baseball grand slam, helping the Reds beat the Houston Astros 7-3.

1995:Alison Hargreaves becomes first woman to climb Everest without oxygen.

1917:3 children witness apparition of Our Lady of Fatima in Fatima, Portugal
