1964:Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire is the first record to make it to the top of Billboard's Country Album chart.

1902: Henry Haven Windsor publishes Popular Mechanics magazine for the first time, with the aim of making scientific and technological advances accessible for the average person. The monthly periodical currently has a circulation of over 1.2 million readers.

1964: U.S. Surgeon General Luther Terry reports that smoking can cause lung cancer and other diseases; it is the first official government announcement that smoking is dangerous to one's health.
