THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW
TV Land , 6-9 p.m. ET
Today is the 50th anniversary of the premiere of one of television’s smartest, most influential early sitcoms: Carl Reiner’s The Dick Van Dyke Show,
the CBS series that gave us not the split focus of home and workplace,
and a roster of writers and actors who would feature in many of the best
TV comedies of the next few decades. Not only that, but five seasons’
worth of brilliantly tuned comedy, starring Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler
Moore – 50 years ago today – as the perfect couple in a Kennedy-era Camelot
comedy. This TV Land anniversary mini-marathon begins with the first
episode, “The Sick Boy and the Sitter,” followed at 6:34 p.m. ET by
Moore’s favorite episode, “My Blonde-Haired Brunette” (pictured), in
which Laura tries to spice up her marriage to Rob by lightening her hair
color. Oh, and concluding the fun, at 8:23 p.m. ET: “It May Look Like a
Walnut,” the show’s brilliant parody of a TV series that was very
popular at the time, The Twilight Zone.
