1900:Max Planck presents the findings of his study on black body radiation to the German Physical Society, forever revolutionizing physics with his quantum theory that radiant energy is not only a wave but also has the properties of particles.

1799:
Former President George Washington dies in his Mount Vernon, Va., home at age 67. In his eulogy for the "father of his country," Henry "Light-Horse Harry" Lee describes Washington as "first in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen."
