WORLD COMMUNITY SERVICE

Rotary clubs in District 5110 (parts of California and Oregon, USA) have worked together with the Rotary Club of Salcedo, the host club in District 4060, Dominican Republic, on four World Community Service (WCS) projects over the past three years. The projects have included equipping elementary and high school computer classrooms, a physiotherapy center, and three community libraries. The close relationship began when Josefina UreƱa, a member of a Group Study Exchange team hosted by District 5110, joined the Rotary Club of Salcedo. Josefina is the current president of the club, which had not participated in WCS in its first 50 years, and has now hosted 15 projects. Norm Malmberg, District 5110 WCS Executive Committee member and Rotary Volunteers chair, has said "the bond and working relationship that we have formed with the Club Rotario Salcedo is inseparable." He and Drake Travis, a fellow member of the Rotary Club of Scott Valley (Ft. Jones), California, the international sponsor club, are traveling to Salcedo this month to help on the latest library project. Read more about this successful partnership.
