1941:About 6:45 a.m., the naval destroyer USS Ward sinks a Japanese midget submarine outside the entrance to Pearl Harbor.

Shortly before 8 a.m., Japanese warplanes attack U.S. naval ships at Pearl Harbor and military installations on Oahu.

Around 8:30 a.m., a second wave of warplanes attacks. The two attacks leave 21 ships of the U.S. Pacific Fleet sunk or damaged and 2,403 Americans—including 68 civilians—dead.
