1963: Seventeen football greats are inducted into the National Professional Football Hall of Fame at the building’s dedication in Canton, Ohio.

1908: The phrase “shake hands and come out fighting” is born after Billy Papke refuses to touch gloves with Stanley Ketchel, punching him instead.
1979: Bill Rasmussen’s ESPN premieres with its live show SportsCenter. Today an average 104 million Americans tune in weekly.
