For almost 25 years, Rebuilding Together (rebuildingtogether.org) has revitalized communities by providing free repairs, accessibility modifications, and energy-efficient upgrades to the homes of low-income Americans. Its 100,000 volunteers complete nearly 10,000 projects each year, addressing mold, lead, radon contamination, and inadequate heating and cooling—hazards that especially plague the homes of senior citizens and low-income families. To date, the organization’s volunteers have completed more than 100,000 home renovation projects around the country, and have also built playgrounds and renovated community centers and public schools. Rebuilding Together also advocates for disadvantaged communities, pushing federal, state, and local government officials to maintain support for vital community programs.
The charity has earned a four-star overall rating from Charity Navigator, which rates not-for-profit organizations on the strength of their finances, their control of administrative and fundraising expenses, and the transparency of their operations. Four stars is the group’s highest rating.
