“Romance isn’t dead,” said Emily Jane Fox in CNNMoney.com. “It’s just hiding at your local Walmart.” A new study by Psychology Today found that in 15 states, the big-box retailer topped the list of places “where love-struck hopefuls try to track down and win over a stranger who caught their eye.” The study, which gathered data from “missed connection” posts on Craigslist, found that Walmart was especially popular for the lovelorn throughout the South, as well as in Idaho, Montana, and South Dakota. In California the gym chain 24 Hour Fitness took the No. 1 spot, while commuter trains and subways were the most likely sites in Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C. Lost chances occurred most in Nevada in casinos, and in Oklahoma, what didn’t happen didn’t happen most at the state fair.
