NOVEMBER 9

1922:Albert Einstein is awarded the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics — a year late, after no suitable winner was found the year prior. The German scientist is noted "for his services to theoretical physics, and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect."

1989 :The Fall of the Berlin Wall

1960: Richard M. Nixon concedes that John F. Kennedy won the presidential election held the day before. Kennedy's margin of victory was less than two-tenths of a percentage point, although he won the Electoral College vote handily.

1967: Editor Jann Wenner and music critic Ralph J. Gleason publish the first issue of Rolling Stone magazine, which they describe as a music magazine that is also about "the things and attitudes that music embraces." The first issue features a still photo of John Lennon on the cover from the film How I Won the War.


1620:Pilgrims aboard the Mayflower sight land at Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
