OCTOBER 15

 1991:Clarence Thomas is confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court in a narrow 52-48 Senate vote, despite concerns about his highly conservative views and accusations of sexual harassment made by former coworker Anita Hill.

1900: The Boston Symphony Orchestra performs its inaugural concert in Symphony Hall, constructed by the architectural firm of McKim, Mead and White with Harvard physics professor Wallace Clement Sabine serving as an acoustical consultant. The now-famous hall is one of the first buildings to utilize scientific principles about acoustics in its design.

1951: Lucille Ball and real-life husband Desi Arnaz star as Lucy and Ricky Ricardo in the premiere of I Love Lucy.

1878:The Edison Electric Light Company begins operation.

1987:The Great Storm of 1987: Was declared a rare occurrence and hit both France & England.
