PASSWORD GAME

Creatively deployed videogames may allow you to "know" a password without being able to divulge it, even under duress. Researchers from Stanford and Northwestern universities devised a computer game requiring players to tap keyboard buttons in response to patterns of dots moving down a screen (similar to "Guitar Hero"). After short training sessions, participants were able to hit the right buttons at the right times when presented with certain repeated sequences, which served as their individual "passwords." The participants themselves weren't told which sequences were crucial, but they could be recognized as authenticated users by their ability to outperform those who hadn't gone through the necessary training.
