April 4
 1581:Francis Drake knighted after completing a circumnavigation of the world.

1975:Programmers Bill Gates and Paul Allen partner up to create a fledgling computer company that will later be named “Micro-soft,” in Albuquerque, N.M.  Gates was 19 and Allen was 22 when they form what will grow to be a multi-billion dollar enterprise and make them two of the world’s richest men.

1865: President Abraham Lincoln visits Richmond, as the Civil War nears its conclusion. Ten days later, he will have a five dollar Confederate note in his pocket when he is assassinated in Washington, D.C.

1964
: The Beatles hold all top five positions in the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts, an achievement never matched by any other recording artists. “Can’t Buy Me Love” is at the top of the charts, followed by “Twist and Shout,” “She Loves You,” “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” and “Please Please Me.”

 1969:The first temporary artificial heart is implanted, by Dr. Denton Cooley.
