2003:U.S. soldiers find former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein hiding in a hole near Tikrit.

1918: President Woodrow Wilson becomes the first president to visit Europe while in office when he docks in France for the Versailles peace conference.

1988: Palestine Liberation Organization Chairman Yasser Arafat addresses the U.N. General Assembly in Geneva. It met there after the United States refused Arafat a visa to enter New York.
