TODAY IN HISTORY

1989:Hundreds, perhaps thousands, of people are killed as Chinese tanks roll into Beijing’s Tiananmen Square, crushing a massive pro-democracy protest.

1984: Bruce Springsteen releases his best-selling album Born in the U.S.A., which produces seven Top 10 singles.

1942: The three-day Battle of Midway begins. The U.S. sinks the four Japanese aircraft carriers that participated in the Pearl Harbor attack six months earlier.
