IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE
NBC, 8 p.m. ET
This is the second
and final 2011 holiday season telecast of this 1946 Frank Capra classic,
starring James Stewart as a banker who believes in believing in, and
improving the lot of, his customers. Are you listening, Citibank? I'm
just asking.
"A CHRISTMAS STORY" MARATHON
TBS, 8 p.m. ET Saturday - 8 p.m. ET Sunday
You can see this
1983 movie version of humorist Jean Shepherd’s holiday remembrances,
starring Peter Billingsley as a young boy who desperately wants a BB gun
as his Christmas gift, as a sort of prototype for The Wonder Years.
And since TBS, once again, is making a 24-hour marathon of it, you can
see the film at 8 p.m. ET. Or at 10. Or at midnight… Or...
TCM, 8 p.m. ET
Strange, but true. On Christmas Eve, TCM presents this 1947 holiday
classic, starring Edmund Gwynn as the Macy’s department-store Santa who
takes his job very, very seriously, and a very young Natalie Wood (a
left, with Gwynn) as the girl who believes in him. What's strange about
that? Coincidentally, at the exact same time, Fox Movie Channel presents
the 1994 movie remake, starring Richard Attenborough as the store
employee who insists he’s Santa. Gwynn won an Oscar. Attenborough, for
the record, did not.
