YA NEVER KNOW

While we would all prefer to hear the voices of our loved ones in the event of a disaster or emergency, cell coverage and network availability often stand in the way. Mobile networks are often overloaded with calls during a crisis and coverage is sometimes limited in rural areas.

Knowing how to send a text message (also known as SMS or Short Message Service) could be critical in an emergency. Text messages can often get around network disruptions when a phone call might not be able to get through.

Text messages work similar to e-mail messages but are typed out using the alphanumeric keypad on your cell phone. For information about rates and availability, you should contact your mobile service provider.
