COOL KID

Eight-year-old Abby Porter kept her cool when her mother suddenly passed out while driving her to school last week. The second-grader calmly leaned over and took the wheel as the car kept rolling, trying to steer it to safety. Luckily, police officer James Hamilton spotted the swerving vehicle and pulled alongside it. “She had a scared look on her face,” he said, “but I never saw her cry.” Hamilton slowed his cruiser in front of the Porters’ car, easing it to a stop. After the ordeal, Abby was soon on to other matters. “I have to get to school,” she told her father. “I have a spelling test.”
