CHARITY OF THE WEEK

Every year, nearly 300,000 children enter foster care and crisis shelters across America. Many are traumatized after being neglected, abused, or abandoned, and most of them have no belongings of their own. My Stuff Bags Foundation (mystuffbags.org) was founded in 1998 with a simple premise: to give these kids hope by meeting their immediate childhood needs. To date, the organization has provided more than 450,000 duffel bags full of new clothing, age-appropriate toys and books, security blankets, and other comfort items to over 1,400 child-care agencies nationwide. Because most agencies can only afford to provide food and shelter, this small gesture can make a huge difference, allowing the recipients to feel like kids again.

The charity has earned a four-star overall rating from Charity Navigator, which rates not-for-profit organizations on the strength of their finances, their control of administrative and fundraising expenses, and the transparency of their operations. Four stars is the group’s highest rating.
