 1949:Capt. James Gallagher lands the Lucky Lady II at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, Texas, after completing the first ever nonstop around-the-world flight. A crew of 14 flew aboard the B-50 Superfortress bomber on its 94-hour flight, refueling the aircraft four times while in the skies.

1933: The film King Kong, depicting the tragic affection of a gigantic gorilla-like creature for movie actress Ann Darrow (played by Fay Wray), debuts at Radio City Music Hall and the RKO Roxy in New York.

1977: Jay Leno makes his debut as a guest comedian on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. Leno would take over full-time hosting duties from Carson on May 25, 1992.
