FLORIDA HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS LIGHT UP FOR POLIO ERADICATION

By Sally Baumgartner, a member of the Rotary Club of Coral Gables, Florida, USA
Our Interactors in Coral Gables, Florida, had a dream.

At the beginning of the school year, their faculty advisor told us the club wanted to contribute to Rotary’s End Polio Now campaign, and donate a portion of their profits from a caroling competition to Rotary’s Challenge. They also wanted to take part in Rotary Day by projecting an End Polio Now message onto the side of their high school. (click below to read more)

With the help of Todd Dayton, governor of District 6990 (Florida), and generous Rotarians in our club, the Interactors were able to fulfill their dream.

At 6 p.m. on 23 February, district dignitaries, Rotarians, and Interactors watched as Coral Gables High School joined the ranks of iconic landmarks around the world illuminated with an End Polio Now message. We believe it is the first building in southern Florida to be lit up with an End Polio Now message. But now that the Interactors know what they are capable of, we are certain it won’t be the last!
