NOVEMBER 5
1906:Chemist and physicist Marie Curie presents her theory of radioactivity and ions in gases to a group of 120 students, professors and journalists, becoming the first woman to lecture at the Sorbonne in Paris. Curie had already won the Nobel Prize in Physics along with her husband, the late physicist Pierre Curie.

1971: The Los Angeles Lakers begin the longest winning streak in the history of the NBA, beating the Baltimore Bullets 110-106 in the first victory of a 33 game winning streak that will last until January 1972.

1994: In a letter to the American people, former President Ronald Reagan discloses that he is suffering from the early stages of Alzheimer's disease.
