chillwave
A few years ago, the genre moniker "chillwave" was used to describe a new wave of indie artists who preferred the aesthetic of R&B to that of rock, favoring samplers and keyboards over guitars and bass.
The suffix "-wave," as applied to music, seems to be formed by analogy to the "New Wave" genre. Other "wave" genres include darkwave (a moodier New Wave music) and coldwave (machinelike post-punk) as well as spoof genres such as "Tumblr-wave" (which has lyrics that resemble microblogging, according to a deleted Wikipedia page).
