CHARITY OF THE WEEK
Dignity U Wear (dignityuwear.org) is a nonprofit charity based in Florida that provides brand-new clothing to needy schoolchildren, women, and girls in crisis situations, and veterans and homeless people looking for work. Since its founding, in 2000, Dignity U Wear has donated over 6.6 million articles of clothing, valued at more than $125 million, to 450,000 people throughout the U.S. Through its partnerships with various clothing retailers, schools, homeless shelters, and social service agencies, Dignity U Wear streamlines its collection and distribution processes, maximizing the reach of its charity and targeting those who need it most. Last year alone, nearly 300 companies donated a total of $9.5 million worth of clothing.
The charity has earned a four-star overall rating from Charity Navigator, which ranks not-for-profit organizations on the strength of their finances, their control of administrative and fund-raising expenses, and the transparency of their operations. Four stars is the group’s highest ranking.
