1985:The Coca-Cola Company releases New Coke, a newly formulated, sweeter version of the popular soft drink. Despite spending millions of dollars on advertising, including the endorsement of a sweater-clad Bill Cosby, the product is a major flop in the United States, and Coca-Cola Classic is reintroduced in July.

1616: Playwright William Shakespeare dies in Stratford-upon-Avon, England, at the age of 52. The renowned author of works such as Romeo and Juliet and Othello is believed to have been born on the same day in 1564.

2005: The first-ever video is uploaded on the video-sharing website YouTube. Me at the zoo is a 19-second clip of YouTube cofounder Jawed Karim discussing elephants at the San Diego Zoo, filmed by Yakov Lapitsky.
