1775:In a fiery speech before the Virginia Convention in Richmond, patriot Patrick Henry calls for the Virginia militia to mobilize in the war effort against Great Britain, demanding “give me liberty or give me death!”

1965: Astronauts Virgil “Gus” Grissom and John Young blast off from Cape Kennedy, Fla., aboard their Gemini 3 spacecraft, the Molly Brown, inaugurating the era of American two-person space flight.

1994: Wayne Gretzky of the Los Angeles Kings breaks Gordie Howe’s National Hockey League career scoring record, netting his 802nd goal in a victory at home against the Vancouver Canucks.
