1998:President Bill Clinton is impeached by the House of Representatives on charges of lying under oath and obstructing justice.

1732: Benjamin Franklin publishes the first issue of Poor Richard’s Almanack. Exactly 44 years later, Thomas Paine publishes an essay declaring: “These are the times that try men’s souls.”

1843: Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol is published in England. By Christmas Eve, 6,000 copies have been sold.
