An 80-year-old Russian shepherd survived a fight with a bear by headbutting and kicking the angry beast. Yusuf Alchagirov was out picking raspberries when he apparently surprised the bear. The octogenarian tried to stab the bear, but it knocked the knife out of his hand. He then kicked and headbutted the bruin, which picked him up and threw him off a nearby cliff. Alchagirov, who didn’t fall far, was briefly hospitalized for four broken ribs, bite marks, and bruises. “I got off easy,” he said. “It would have killed me if I’d chickened out.”
