1967:The Six Day War begins when Israel launches a surprise attack on the Egyptian Air Force, in response to a military buildup of Arab forces on the Israeli border. Syria and Jordan also join the conflict on the side of their Arab neighbor. In less than a week, Israel would occupy the Sinai Peninsula, West Bank, Golan Heights and the Gaza Strip.

1977: The Apple II, considered the world's first personal computer, goes on sale, complete with a 6502 microprocessor and color graphics. Primarily designed by Steve Wozniak, the 8-bit machine is priced at $1,298 for 4kB of RAM and is one of the most successful home computers of all time, staying in production until 1993.

2004: Former president Ronald Reagan dies after long battle withAlzheimer's disease at his home in Los Angles. He was 93 years old.

1876:Bananas popular in US after introduction at Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia.

1805:The first recorded tornado in "Tornado Alley" happened in southern Illinois.
