SUPER WIRE IS HERE

Tired of earbuds that fly from your ears every time the wire gets tugged? Scientists have developed wires that can be stretched up to eight times their original length. (click below to read more)

The technology, developed at North Carolina State University, involves a highly elastic polymer fashioned into a thin tube, which is then filled with a liquid metal alloy. Earlier attempts at stretchable wires involved embedding metals or other conductors in polymers, but the mixes weren't quite elastic or conductive enough. The researchers said that the new design enables the wire to maintain conductivity even when stretched far beyond its normal length. The technology was described online in the journal Advanced Functional Materials.
