1927:The image and voice of Commerce Secretary Herbert Hoover were transmitted live from Washington to New York in the first successful long-distance demonstration of television.

1947:Du Mont Labs announces the "kinescope"

1948: The World Health Organization is established as a branch of the United Nations to address global health concerns. April 7, 1948 is celebrated as the first World Health Day.

1954: President Dwight D. Eisenhower first describes his “domino theory” at a news conference, warning that if French Indochina falls to communism, the rest of Southeast Asia could follow.
