THE WIZARD OF OZ
TNT, 7 & 9:15 p.m. ET
Still amazing,
still wonderful to watch with the whole family -- and still, after 72
years, one of the best movie musicals ever made. And to think -- before
this film was released, the studio suggested reducing the running time
by cutting Judy Garland's pre-Oz opening number, "Over the Rainbow."
Astounding. And that refers to both the beauty of the song and the
stupidity of those executives.
BRINGING UP BABY
TCM, 8 p.m. ET
Cary
Grant is sharp, funny and fast-talking in this 1938 Howard Hawks movie,
but he’s got nothing on Katharine Hepburn, who matches him note for
note, move for move, laugh for laugh – and star wattage for star
wattage. All this, and a pet leopard, too.
